Design as cultural strategy: Can hospitality recover places?

Our Keynote Presentation was: The Case of KYRIOS on Leros Island, by Anaktae.

On the island of Leros, the Athens-based studio Anaktae is developing KYRIOS, a project that connects hospitality with cultural restoration.

KYRIOS reflects a wider approach: one that sees heritage as context. Anaktae work with local craftsmen, use traditional techniques, and draw from the architectural language of Leros to create spaces that are relevant today, without erasing their origins.

The result is a series of restorations that open up new possibilities for design-led hospitality on the island, while contributing to its long-term cultural and economic sustainability.
